Along with darker days and colder nights comes the inevitable flu and cold season. It’s not all bad news though; there are sweet moments in the winter – outdoor snowy bonfires with hot coco and marshmallows, holiday parties, and black diamonds. To really enjoy the more pleasant aspects of winter, good health is required. Sounds simple, but it can be pretty tough when everyone at the office is coughing and sneezing. Don’t rely on moving to another part of the room – it wont work! Fight cold and flu bugs by boosting your immune system naturally.

Unsurprisingly, a healthy and highly functional immune system goes hand in hand with a healthy lifestyle. Healthy habits like regular exercise, refraining from smoking and drinking in excess, maintaining a proper sleep schedule, and eating plenty of fruits and veggies, all aid in keeping your body in tiptop shape. We might also add that an occasional scrub with organic coconut coffee scrub is important to keep your skin at its healthiest ;)

Besides general health boosters, like exercise, sleep, and diet, alleviating stress makes a huge difference in avoiding illness. Focusing on keeping stress to a minimum, and allowing for relaxation, keeps your body in flu fighting shape. Meditative exercise like yoga and tai chi help bring stress levels down naturally – alleviating outside stress factors that can build up and weaken your immune system. Stress hormones can suppress the immune system, making you more prone to catching whatever is going around. De-stress and unwind with a vinyasa flow class, take a bath with sprinkles of lavender oil, or treat yourself to a DIY facial. However you like to unwind, make sure you recognize when you might need it – before your immune system is compromised.

After Om’ing it out, prepare a meal packed full of immune boosting munchies to fortify further. Supplements like vitamin C, Echinacea, vitamin B, and a multi-vitamin are helpful in boosting your immune system, as are many everyday food items. Try adding garlic, ginger, and bell peppers to lunches and dinners, and have green tea and yogurt for breakfast to keep your immune system strong.

Don’t fall victim to the constant cold! Get your immune system fortified and fight off colds and flus this winter. Snow can be enjoyable!
