Remember the family that went organic for 21 days to see if there was a significant difference in how their bodies reacted to organic food and products vs. conventional? Remember the findings?
Even after one day of eating organic foods, and using organic beauty and wellness products, the amount of pesticides found within each family member dropped dramatically.
"Previous research has established that organic food can pack more nutrients into the same piece of produce than conventionally farmed foods. A recent study from Newcastle University found that concentrations of antioxidants like polyphenolics in organic produce can be 18 to 69 percent higher than in their non-organic counterparts. But according to the Mayo Clinic, one of the main considerations in choosing organic food isn't the increased nutritional value, but rather the reduction in pesticide exposure."
While many people choose to eat organic food, and do their weekly grocery shopping that way, health and beauty products are often over-looked. Perhaps the connection to the body isn't as dramatic - you don't eat beauty products, and usually you don't chug lotion. However, the skin is the body's biggest organ, meaning that if you slather yourself with products full of chemicals, parabens, and other harsh ingredients often found in everyday beauty items, you are directly absorbing harmful elements.
So, while you may annoy your friends at the burger joint, when asking the waiter, "Is that free range and grass fed?" You're annoying them in vain if you slather dyed pink lotion that smells like some sort of magical fruity cotton candy mix (with 50 different ingredients) all over your skin on a daily.
Sick of ingredients that read like a chemistry test, preservatives, fragrances, dyes, and alcohols, we were inspired to start something natural and organic.
At Pura Vida Body we care about the ingredients we buy, eat, and put on our skin. We believe in bio organic, sustainable practices, supporting local communities, and preserving our environment. We want to create so many more products for the skin and body, but for now we're starting small, and getting it right. Our organic coconut coffee scrub is made with all natural, organic, ingredients, created and farmed with sustainable practices and sourced from local Costa Rican communities (when available).
We believe in the organic lifestyle, and think beauty products, and what you put on your skin, should be as important as the food you choose to eat.
Next time you're at your local organic farmer's market, and you pass by the organic beauty stand...think again, and maybe take your organic lifestyle to the next, logical, level: your entire body.
